Below are some of the questions we are asked most frequently. If you have a question for Clark-Drain that isn't answered here then please contact us.
Q: | I'm installing a 450mm manhole cover over an inspection chamber and the depth is over 1.2m, what shall I do? | A: | Use the CLKS499 Reducer, this fits on all our 450mm Dia inspection covers and will reduce the opening to 350mm to comply with the Building Regulations. | | ^^ back to top |
Q: | We have a broken cover!
– Do you do a 26"x 20" manhole cover?
– Do you do a 650mm x 550mm cover? | A: | All manhole covers and frames are measured by the clear opening, as this is the only true constant between manufacturer's designs. The above covers will be a 600mm x 450mm (24" x 18" approx) clear opening cover.

Q: | I'm fitting a 450mm inspection chamber cover in my driveway and my garden and do not know which one to use, can you advise? | A: | You should use the Clks 452 Polypropylene cover, which complies with Doc H of the Building Regulations 2002. | | ^^ back to top |
Q: | Our 2 tonne forklift has just broken a 10 Tonne GPW steel manhole cover. Why has this happened? | A: | Forklifts have smaller diameter tyres and a smaller contact area than standard road going vehicles. Calculations show that they apply at least 4 times the load of a 10 Tonne lorry plus extra dynamic forces due to solid tyres, little suspension etc. Clark-Drain recommends the use of our forklift loading covers for use in typical forklift loading areas. | | ^^ back to top |
